I kept a lot of villages devoted to me (relations 80 and above) and they give a whopping 40-60 recruits per call for volunteers. I also get a lot of meatshields to use during sieges. A bullet to the neck would equally kill a peasant and a samurai. The Oda enjoys having Elite Skirmisher peasants and I spam them everywhere. I now just have a tenth or less of my army as samurais. Actually, though, a peasant army of the same price will actually kick more ass. I used to have a smaller army with a hefty samurai core. I made the mistake of not following this at the start.

I've learned a lot of money saving and battlefield tips as well: We are now heavily pushing the Asakura and Takeda back, which are now both down to their last towns. No longer do I need to raid to make ends meet (I still have to raid, though, if I needed mass recruits). However, I have stabilized my finances already! I could now field a 190 man army and still net 70-200 mon profit. We are the only faction in Japan to be constantly at war with 5 factions at once in the past ~150 days. I've only held the strategist position once (declined it many times since I had to raid just to make ends meet). 300 in-game days and I'm still a minor lord in Oda.

Plus the fact that rebels are actually well equipped and that there are 1k armies constantly endagering your fiefs, it seems more economical if your character stayed in your home territory.įast forward to now. Towns also tend to be shit poor so they can't pay you for your entire haul. In other campaigns such as Brytenwalda or Native, trading runs tend to be really profitable (im talking about silver and salt runs in Brytenwalda, or fur and silk runs in Native). In my campaign, the northern clans tended to demand more luxury goods (laquer, silk, etc.) and the south tended to demand more basic goods (white rice, sake, fish sauce, etc.). I then used the money to invest in far away clans that are unlikely to wage war on us. I used this also to distract entire armies away from besieging our fiefs which would otherwise wouldn't hold. Villages in Gekokujo tend to be shit poor but with a decent looting and foraging skill (around 4 or 5 points), they still net 3-5k mon per raid. All major land battles were immediate defeats but we managed to win small skirmishes here and there. Sieges were 300v1.2k battles (considering my character was barely level 12 then). This is because right after I joined the Oda, 5 clans declared war on us and we had to defend from countless attacks for 150 days or so. I had some money issues for a while in Gekokujo as well.
